Cal Hubbard's name might not be as recognizable as many of his contemporaries, but he does hold the unique distinction of being enshrined in both the Pro Football and Baseball Hall of Fame. Born in 1900, Hubbard played professional football in the 1920s and '30s, and is credited with pioneering the position of linebacker. His foray into baseball began just as his football career ended, but rather than through competition, Hubbard made his mark on the game as an umpire. This cap and shirt were worn by Hubbard during his time as an ump. The set features a navy blue umpire cap (size 7 3/4) with a McAuliffe tag inside. The white umpire shirt has a "Mark Twain by Elder" tag inside and "Hubb -4" handwritten in the neck, as well as an additional collar with "Hubb -4" on it. The shirt has a dry cleaner's tag around it, and both items come directly from Hubbard's family.
