One-of-a-kind folk art, this pottery face jug is by Robert Anderson, the famed Bucks County, Pennsylvania potter recognized as a leader in the field. Devoted to Russell Aubrey "Lena" Blackburne, who was famous for his 1930s "muck" recipe that took the shine off of white baseballs. Lena grew up in southern New Jersey and remembered the "muck" from a river in the Pine Barrens which helped create this recipe still used to this day, and an original coffee can-full resides in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. This magnificent figural green glazed face jug is large and heavy, 10.5" tall, with Anderson's signature and is in NRMT condition.
