The actual head racquet used by Bobby Riggs in 1973 when he lost convincingly to Billie Jean King in the Astrodome. Considered by many to be one of the greatest sporting events of all time. We cannot stress the historical importance of this piece enough. In addition to the sporting aspect of this match, it also served as a major event for the women's libera-tion movement. The racquet's frame is broken in three places around the strings as a result of Riggs' disgust after the loss. It could be fixed but we feel that it adds character and originality to this important piece. The racquet is mounted on a board which has the handwritten statement: "Doug, I'm glad you have taken such good care of my tennis racquet the one that I used and lost before 90 million people around world in 1973. Bobby Riggs." Our consignor, Doug, obtained this racquet directly from Riggs, who the inscription on the board is to. Comes with a let-ter detailing the circumstances of how it was obtained.
