In 1948, Citation dominated the world of horse racing, capturing 19 out of 20 starts and finishing second once. Among the races won were the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes, making him only the eighth Triple Crown winner in history. An entire generation would speculate for the next 25 years whether any horse would ever duplicate the feats of Citation until Secretariat hit the scene in 1973. This is an original horseshoe worn by Citation during that historic 1948 racing campaign. It is offered with an LOA from the family of David Ebelhardt, the general manager of the legendary Calumet Farms from 1944 to 1957. The fully intact horseshoe has been mounted and framed (roughly 8" x 11") with a plaque that reads: "HORSESHOE WORN BY CITATION DURING HIS 1948 TRIPLE CROWN CAMPAIGN."
