Pat Moran was a light-hitting catcher during his playing days, but he hit his stride as a manager, leading two National League teams to their first World Series - the 1915 Phillies and 1919 Reds, the latter title coming against the infamous Chicago Black Sox. This large cast bronze bust of Moran in his Reds uniform was signed R.J. Golde in 1924 and is a unique example of antique Bronze works of baseball subjects. Distinguished by its exceptional condition and quality, this is the same image that marks the centerpiece of the Pat Moran Memorial erected in his hometown of Fitchburg, Mass. The Memorial was funded in part by a game in 1925 during which the Reds played an area All-Star team. To quote the following day's paper: "there could be no greater tribute to Moran as a manager than the fact that three great pitchers of the Cincinnati club, working all of them overtime and out of turn to try and put the team back into first, insisted on taking part in the contest." The monument still stands today. Moran died shortly before the 1924 season got underway and cut short a brilliant career as a manager.
