Harry Chiti spent 11 years in the major leagues as a backstop between 1950 and 1962, and in 1959, he was issued this home A's jersey with elephant-on-baseball logo on the sleeve and Athletics patch across the chest both in fine condition. The Wilson manufacturer's 1959 set tag is in the front tail. The original # 8 has some heavy wear. Chiti, who was known for his success in catching the knuckleball, will forever be remembered for an odd historic footnote. On April 25, 1962—before he even played a game for the Indians—Chiti was acquired by the expansion New York Mets for a player to be named later. However, he was sent back to Cleveland on June 15, 1962 after 15 games. Since Chiti was the "player to be named later," he thus became the first player ever traded for himself!
