A complete uniform from the fictional New York Knights ballclub for whom Robert Redford played in the 1984 film adaptation of Bernard Malamud’s classic novel. Obtained directly from actor John Van Ness, who portrayed catcher John "Ollie" Olsen in the film, this is the complete uniform he wore on screen. The uniform comprises the #18 pinstriped home jersey (size 42), matching pants, black leather belt, striped socks, cap and leather cleats. Jersey has number and team name in felt letters, 1939 baseball centennial patch and famous lightning bolt patch. Pants have "Van Ness" handwritten inside the waistband.“Olsen #18” is marked inside the cleats, while the NY cap has“#18” scribbled inside. Topping off this impressive set is the team jacket with the familiar KNIGHTS logo patch stitched on the left breast, seven buttons and tan leather sleeves. Inside the collar is an Empire Sporting Goods tag with JVN handwritten inside. There is also a Spalding National League baseball included, perhaps a prop from the film, which was shot in 1983 at the now-razed War Memorial Stadium in Buffalo, NY.
