Before moving west to Kansas City, and then further west to Oakland, the Athletics built a dynasty in Philadelphia, where they called home for the first half of the 20th Century. This collection of Philly A's hats consists of a well-worn 1940 Spalding with "Hancken" sewn inside the headband. This was worn by catcher and eventual manager Buddy Hancken. There's also a late 1940s Spalding with a hard liner inside that was worn by slick-fielding third baseman Hank Majeski. There's also an early 1950s McAuliffe with E.J. written under the bill and attributed to Eddie Joost; early 1950s by Leslie that is not game worn; and a circa 1954 model by Mitchell and Ness exhibiting a lot of wear and the number "14" under the bill.
