Roberto Clemente “My Beloved Little Island” Letter
Historically important document is the most important Clemente letter
yet offered and one of the better baseball documents we have offered.
Published in the main Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia (The New
Day) in appreciation for Roberto’s great feeling for his homeland at
the apex of his career. It was likely after either his 1971 World
Series win or his 3000th hit.
The letter translates in English:
To my beloved little Island
Thanks for giving me your support
and the opportunity to represent you in the Major Leagues
and for giving me the inspiration that keeps me fighting
I would also like to thank the El Nuevo Dia Newspaper
for their kindness in delivering this message to all my brothers.
Roberto Clemente
On Pittsburgh Hilton stationery which was only used for the white
background (the letter was written horizontally). The stationery was
trimmed with added publishing notes. The letter has three creases
where it was folded inside a book. The letter can be presented
beautifully framed as the ink is in like new condition with a gorgeous
full Clemente signature. The Clemente handwriting is exceptional as
he knew this was being published .
The perfect object for the person who appreciates the importance of
Clemente and the importance of this document to the “Islita” of Puerto
Rico.
