This is an outstanding archive of correspondence from the desk of John L. Sullivan’s trainer, William Muldoon. Each TLS appears on letterhead bearing the name The Olympia, Muldoon’s Hygenic Institute in Purchase, N.Y. It is here that he whipped Sullivan back into shape for his 1889 bout with Jake Killrain. The type written letters were directed to Muldoon’s brother Martin and the subject of many of these letters touch upon health, diet and physical training. The best of the letters is one dated Feb 5th, 1928 which begins with him expressing shock and grief over John L. Sullivan’s death. All (15) letters are signed in black ink written with a steel tip fountain pen and rate an 8 out 10. The letters do have fold lines, with some fold separations on a few. All are solid and complete however. Finally included in this lot are a stub for a 1924 Firpo vs. Willis bout (VG), a postcard signed the Muldoon’s and an autograph in pencil from Jack Dempsey (NRMT).
