Tom Cribb was an English bare knuckle boxer born in 1781 and died in 1848. He fought and defeated Tom Molyneaux, a black American and former slave, in 35 rounds. This was in 1810 to win the World Title. The fight involved quite a bit of controversy as a melee involving the crowd erupted in the 19th round. In it Molyneaux allegedly broke his hand. He did continue but ultimately lost. There was a rematch also won by Cribb in 11 rounds in 1811. These boxing statues of the two fighters were produced in the early to mid-19th century and are hand painted. Oddly enough Tom Cribb is depicted as black and Molyneaux as white in these very rare hollow ceramic type statues. They measure 8" in height and are in EX condition.
