The fabled New York Yankees were dominant in every sense of the word from the late 1920’s to early 1960’s, and yet there are relative kinks in any Goliath’s armor, and for three straight years in the 40’s, the Bronx Bombers didn’t win a World Series, nor a pennant. At the end of this period, from 1944 to 1946, the manager, Joe McCarthy, who had led the Yanks to another level in the 30’s, was replaced with Bucky Harris, and shortly thereafter, by Casey Stengel, who would guide them through the brilliant 50’s.
