Boston Red Sox pitcher Jeff Reardon saves the day - that day being June 15, 1992 - and takes his rightful place atop the list of all-time savers with his defeat of the Yankees by acquiring career save #342. Official American League (Brown) baseball was game-used in the then record setting game. Obtained by umpire Dave Phillips, it pens "Jeff Reardon" on the sweet spot with "6-15-92 Save #342" in his hand on a panel. Signature is 8/10. LOA from Phillips. The day before this benchmark, Reardon (and Lee Smith of the St. Louis Cardinals) both tied the MLB record of pitching at the 30-save level for the 6th consecutive season. The Red Sox would trade Reardon to the Atlanta Braves two months later.
