Old time sports fans talk reverentially about the good old days. Hockey fans are no different. Before WWI the Pacific Coast Hockey League was a competitor of the NHL and consisted of 4 teams: Vancouver Lions, Seattle Eskimos, Portland Buckaroos, and the Victoria Cubs. After the war the NHL began to outshine the PCHL. But it was the PCHL that initiated many of the things we now take for granted as hockey fans. They came up with changing on the fly and penalty shots. Eventually though, the NHL won out and the PCHL ceased to exist in that incarnation. This should satisfy anyone’s need to revel in the roots of hockey. An original 1928 jersey from the Victoria Cubs. Everything about this jersey is brilliant. Original collar tag “Dominion Knit Winnipeg.” Jersey shows great wear with one small hole in the right sleeve and six team repairs, yet remains in near immaculate condition. Black sweater with orange and white trim. “V” on chest. Top of left sleeve has “C” for Cubs. Reverse has the number “3”. Jersey was found in an estate sale in Winnipeg years ago. We think it belonged to one of four Winnipeg residents who were on the team: “Pep” Kelly, Oliver Redpath, Henry Runge, or Cliff O’Meara. Kelly made it to the NHL but the others did not. Wonderful hockey and memorabilia memento.
