He was certainly overshadowed in his day because he played during the heyday of Gretzky and Lemieux but one on one no player could undress a defenseman any better than Savard. With his patented spinarama he would fake one way, spin back the other way, and often find himself with the puck in alone on some poor, helpless goaltender. He was lightning quick and improvised on the fly as well as anyone. Savard was a star from the beginning, scoring 75 points in his rookie season, followed by 119 the following year. He also scored 11 goals in 15 games as the Hawks upset Minnesota and reached the semi-finals. Between 1982 and 1988, Savard topped the 100-point mark five times including a personal best 131 points in 1987-88. It wasn’t until he returned to his native Montreal in ’92-93 that Savard realized the lifelong dream of all Canadian boys when he finally won the Cup. Jersey from the tail end of the 1980’s is a home white with black and red trim. Insignia on chest, “18” and logo on sleeves. “Maska” collar tag. Reverse has “Savard” over number “18.” Captain’s “C” has been removed. Jersey shows spectacular wear, with various small pulls, nicks and dozens of sticks mark all over. Even some blood staining on the lower portion of the front.
