A superb 1921 photograph of Smokey Joe Wood wearing his “World Champions” shirt. After a phenomenal but sadly truncated career as a Red Sox fastballer, Wood joined the Cleveland Indians in 1917 as a good- hitting outfielder and second baseman. When the Indians emerged victorious from their 9-game 1920 Series with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Wood received this “World Champions” uniform. In the year this picture was taken, Wood achieved the high point in his second career as hitter / fielder, batting .366 for the Indians. 3 1/4” x 4 1/4”. Condition is NRMT, with some paper loss on reverse that does not affect the quality of this wonderful image.
