Constructed of copper with an opening top lid, with carry handles at each end and a small top handle of metal and cobalt blue glass. The case advertises its product quite effectively - “Hot Peanuts / Peanuts / Hot Peanuts / Peanuts” in red letters on all four sides, and it whistles when moved in a certain way. A sealed jacket, intended to be filled with boiling water, surrounds the storage section, and there is an inlet and vent for this purpose at one end. When the lid is opened a wonderful “tin” advertising sign appears - “RED HOT / W.B. Berry & Co. Boston / (picture of three bags of peanuts) / Established 1867 / FRESH ROASTED”, AN embossed multi-color lithograph on metal. Overall dimensions W - 12” x L - 20” x H - 15 1/2”. Condition: a few dents from use in a long career, located front at bottom and on top. Paint wear on front and sides, again from long use, but adding greatly to a feeling of age and authenticity.
