The Hartford Club was one of the earliest professional baseball teams, dating to the early 1870’s. This is from their first and only year in the National League. Many of the players went on to play and manage in the Major Leagues, including Connie Mack, who caught for the team early in his career. This is an 1876 “Hartford Club” lamp, originally furnished with a globe and wick, and using oil for fuel. A modern incandescent bulb socket has been fitted. The bronze lamp features a baseball player in period costume with bat cocked. An “H” is on his breast and “Hartford Club” appears on his belt. “Pat Apl’d For” appears on the reverse near base. The lamp is set on an integral 4-1/2” square base, and stands 8-1/4”, measured to the top of the figure. Condition is EX-MT; superb, apart from the alteration.
