Paul Hornung’s achievements for Notre Dame were so remarkable that he won the 1956 Heisman Trophy, and is the only player ever to do so while on a team with a losing record. His nine-year Hall of Fame career with Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers included four NFL Championships, and his 176 points in 1960 remains the all-time NFL record. This lot includes a spectacular group of Paul Hornung / Notre Dame items from 1956. Included are: Football, white leather, marked “Notre Dame / Fighting Irish”. Prominently signed on blue-green ink by Paul Hornung, and with approximately 80 other signatures in blue-green ink of teammates and coaches, including #s and positions. Partially deflated, but in nice shape overall. Fragment of wooden goal post, inscribed in black ink over original white paint “Notre Dame 21 / North Carolina 14 / November 19, 1956”, signed in black ink by Paul Hornung and over fifty teammates and coaches, including Bronko Nagurski. Approximate L 22” X W 2 1/2”. Green on white Notre Dame jersey of unknown ID, worn by Hornung, boldly signed on both front and back by the Packer Hall of Famer.
