Gloriously groovy poster for an October 6, 1967 “dance concert” highlighted by Janis Joplin’s band Big Brother and the Holding Company at Sausalito’s The Ark, a favorite stop for the Bay Area’s legion of acid-rock bands. The poster, which showed up in stores and head shops, reflects the days of “bud and blotto” with a neon orange and purple rendering of a nubile nymph getting her groove on under a mass of swirling hair intermingling with the names of the bands, with Big Brother taking precedence on the upper left corner above Jack & The Ripper. At least 4 posters done in this style are known to exist for Joplin gigs at The Ark, and this may be the best. 16 x 21” and EX w/nearly invisible corner damage. Stand back a bit and it’ll look perfect, especially if you inhale. Mounted on linen with EXS-MT appearance.
