One of the best Cuban pitchers of his era, Rudolfo Arias threw a no-hitter for the Havana-based Sugar Kings team on September 17, 1950. This ball, used in that game, was taken by Miguel Angel Quinedo, editor of Bohemia Magazine, decorated in a folk-art design, and then returned to Arias. One of the most storied teams in Cuba, the Sugar Kings played in the AAA International League as ab affiliate of the Cincinnati Royals, and also played many teams from outside of the league, including games against Negro League clubs. The Sugar Kings moved to New Jersey in 1960 due to political changes in their homeland. Arias received his chance to play in the majors at age 28 in 1960, when he appeared as a relief pitcher for the Chicago Cubs in 34 games. This Official International League Ball has Spalding stampings. "BOHEMIA" is written on the ball in large block letters, along with "no hit no run" and Cueano Sugar Kings and the date "17-8-50" in blue ink. The ball is signed by Rudolfo Arias and by Miguel Angel Quinedo on the opposite side, both in blue ink. Both signatures grade 6-7. The ball is in overall GD condition.
