The Chicago Cougars of the World Hockey Association bled money, struggled to attract fans and could not win consistently. But they inspire severe pangs of nostalgia. This well-preserved relic of the upstart league's effort to compete with the NHL has the screws, foam padding, chin strap and Cougars logo intact. Dents and smears on the surface reflect the franchise's battling from last place in the league's 1972-73 maiden season to the finals the next, only to tumble out of the league in the third season after reverting to their losing ways.
