Fabulous mementos from the greatest money winner of all time. One was on the hoof of The Biscuit when he beat Triple Crown winner, War Admiral in his highly publicized match race of 1938. The two ends of the horseshoe are connected with an added sterling plate engraved, "WORN BY SEA BISCUIT DEFEATING WAR ADMIRAL - PIMLICO SPECIAL - NOVEMBER 1, 1938 - 1 3/16 M. TIME 1.56 3/5 - NEW TRACK RECORD." The second horseshoe in this glass encased display was on Seabuiscuit's hoof for his last race, where he finally won the Santa Anita handicap. Engraved onto the shoe itself is "SEABISCUIT - GREATEST MONEY WINNER OF ALL TIME." The shoe is also mounted onto a recessed sterling plate, which is engraved in the middle, "Worn by Seabiscuit winning Santa Anita Handicap, 1940 - 1 1/4 M. Time 2.01 1/5 Track Record." The horseshoes were originally a gift from Charles Howard's secretary to a close friend, who then had them put into this frame. In the early 1970's, the display was loaned to the Tanforan Shopping Mall in San Bruno, former site of the Tanforan Racetrack during their Grand Opening Display ceremony. Comes with LOA from the person who received these as a gift from Howard's secretary, as well as a copy of the article on the piece, published in the San Bruno Herald (circa 1971).
