One of the most shocking images in baseball history. Here is the riot cased by Juan Marichal at the bat, bashing an unsuspecting John Roseboro right on the head. This is a real vintage gallery print by the great Neil Leifer, dean of modern baseball photographers and Sports Illustrated doyen. The action of the umpire trying to restrain Marichal while Roseboro is still on his way down while Koufax races in with wearing disbelief on his face is like a car accident that you cannot look away from. Roseboro was supposedly throwing the ball back into Koufax past his ear, which sent him into this frenzy. They later became friends and this forgiveness Marichal credits with his getting into the Hall of Fame. Stunning tapestry print is 13x19” on original board (overall 20x22”) and with the Leifer mark on the verso. Photo NRNT, board EX.
