This black & white photograph tells it all, a sign of the times. Hall of Famer, George Kelly (coach) poses for this disparaging shot with who was known as a “pickaninny”. The young Black child has been “caught in the act” of stealing baseballs, trying to jump the fence, as George Kelly grabs him by the collar and the seat of his pants. This depiction is an accurate representation of popular Black roles during the early art of the century in films, and any form of media. Long before the coming of Jackie Robinson, this photo is vintage and in Excellent condition with some light surface scratches (only visible upon close examination) and a few small creases.
