Cannot overstate the importance of this one. This second-place medal was awarded to a member of the heavily-favored Russian team that was vanquished by a young but determined team of Americans in the game that came to be known as “The Miracle on Ice”. A solid silver masterpiece from the folks at Tiffany & Co. (original case is included), this gorgeous prize has an image of the torch on the face with Olympic rings and the words “XIII Olympic Winter Games”. The verso has a pine branch and “Lake Placid 1980” underneath which is inscribed the telling words “Ice Hockey”. The edge is engraved with the following: “Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver, 1979”. Though anything less than the first prize was, and remains, a symbol of shame to the former Soviet Union, in he hands of an American it is “pure gold”.
