Presented is a ticket stub to the January 19, 1964, Bill Russell versus Wilt Chamberlain (Boston Celtics vs. San Francisco Warriors) game at Boston Garden. During the 1950s and '60s, these Hall of Fame centers battled each other many times, with Russell always on the Celtics, and Chamberlain, first on the Philadelphia Warriors and then, when the Warriors moved West, on the San Francisco Warriors. Russell was the better defensive player of the two and Chamberlain topped Russell on offense. As a player, Russell was a part of 11 NBA Champions, and he was a 5-time NBA MVP who amassed 21,620 total rebounds. Russell had countless blocked shots, not an official NBA statistic during his career. Chamberlain was a 2-time NBA Champion, an 11-time total rebound leader, and an 11-time NBA MVP. On March 2, 1962, against the New York Knicks, he scored 100 points in a game, still an NBA record.

Back in the heyday of Russell and Chamberlain, the NBA didn't have a 3-point shot, and offenses generally kept the center close to the basket and worked their offense from the inside out. On 1/19/64, there were 4,127 fans at Boston Garden. Chamberlain, at 7'1", played every second of the 48-minute game and made 14-of-31 shots from the field and added three free throws to notch 31 points. Wilt also had 30 total rebounds. Opposing him, Russell also played every minute of the game. He hit 5-of-8 shots and added a pair of foul shots to wind up with 12 points. The 6'10" pivot man had 22 total rebounds. The Celtics prevailed 108-105. Both the Celtics and the Warriors met in that season's NBA Finals, with Boston winning the NBA Championship by 4-1 in games.

The stub measures approx. 1.5x1.5". The stub reads, in part, "49/BOX/BOX SEAT/BOSTON GARDEN/SUNDAY AFT/January 19, 1964/$4.00." The ticket stub has been encapsulated and PSA graded "STUB/VG-EX/4" (101441619).
