Rare ticker tape documenting the play-by-play action in Game 2 of the 1920 World Series between the Brooklyn Robins and Cleveland Indians held at Ebbets Field on October 6th. All ticker tapes, because of their fragile nature, are rare, especially those from major events. This is the first World Series ticker tape we have ever offered and just the second we can recall having seen at auction (the other was from the 1935 World Series). The offered tape has been mounted within a shadowbox display, so we have not examined it out of the frame. However, it is partially unfurled and what little we can see reads "Burns Walked - Jamieson On Second." That text corresponds to the action that took place in the top of the eighth inning, with Cleveland trailing 3-0.The Indians failed to score that inning, with Burleigh Grimes eventually going the distance for the Robins in their 3-0 win. The original owner of this ticker tape sent it to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984 for help in authenticating it and in determining its value. Included in the shadowbox is a typed letter, dated March 19, 1984, from Peter Clark, registrar of the Hall of Fame, who confirms that the tape documents Game 2 of the 1920 World Series and that the Hall would be happy to accept it as a donation. Also featured in the shadowbox is a color copy of the cover a 1920 World Series Program and a modern print of Tris Speaker.

As previously mentioned, the ticker tape has not been examined out of frame, so our condition report is based solely upon what we can observe. There are a few tears to the unfurled portion, and we can see a tear to the top piece on the roll to the left. The middle portion of the roll was once affixed to the Speaker photo, but the ticker tape has since torn away from the adhesive, leaving a small bit of paper still stuck to the glue. The roll to the left also appears to be pinned to the backing through the center of the roll, but it might also be adhered to the backing as well. The shadowbox measures 29.5x13.5x3".

Please Note: Lelands strongly recommends that the winning buyer picks up this lot in person. Lelands can ship the piece, however, given the fragile nature of the ticker tape, Lelands CANNOT guarantee its safety during shipping. The buyer will assume all risks associated with shipping and Lelands will not be liable for any damage to the piece during shipping. Also, the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
