Presented is an August 12, 1983, "Hacksaw" Butch Reed signed wresting contract for Reed to meet Jim Duggan in a heavyweight match in Houston, Texas, on that same date. No specific place in Houston is specified in the contract. Bruce Reed was a successful black wrestler in the 1980s-90s. He has a listed height and weight of 6'2" and 262 lbs. Reed went by the nickname "Hacksaw," as did Duggan, who had the nickname before it was used by Reed. In the wrestling world, it was said that Duggan held bad feelings against Reed for adopting the "Hacksaw" nickname. Born as Bruce Reed, the wrestler was a football player at Central Missouri State, and he had a tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs. At first, Bruce Reed wrestled under his own first and last name. Then, he began to use "Butch Reed" as his wrestling moniker. Later, Reed began to add "Hacksaw" to his nickname. When the two "Hacksaws" met in the match described in the offered contract, Duggan attacked Reed before the match officially started. The wrestling turned to punching, and Duggan, known for his dirty tricks, fought dirty against Reed. Eventually, Duggan lost on a disqualification.
The signed contract is a form contract on an 8.5x11" paper with the heading, "TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND STANDARDS/BOXING OR WRESTLING CONTRACT." The offered contract shows that Reed was officially given $25.00 in consideration for the bout. Reed signed the contract in neatly scripted, blue, ballpoint ink, and the contract was with Best of Texas Wrestling. Reed won a number of wrestling championships, some in tag-team wrestling. Reed was known for wrestling with Mid-South Wrestling and the WWF/WCW. He passed away in 2021. The contract is in EXCELLENT condition.
