Scarce Joe Louis hand puppet dating from the 1930s. This puppet was produced in tandem with a Max Schmeling hand puppet to capitalize on their two historic boxing bouts in 1936 and 1938. When sold, neither puppet was marketed with the respective boxer's real name, most likely because the manufacturer did not secure the licensing rights. The "Louis" puppet was titled the "Brown Bopper" on the retail box, while the Schmeling puppet was titled the "Tiger Kid." Patrons, however, had no trouble correctly identifying either boxer, as the likeness for each is unmistakable. The offered puppet features a vinyl head and gloves, and a cloth body which allows enough room for one to insert his or her hand and manipulate the arms. Excellent condition overall.
