Sanford "Sandy" Koufax was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1935, as Sanford Braun, and the Hall of Fame left-hander played 12 Major League seasons (1955-66), all with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers. Presented is an extremely scarce, Koufax, single-signed baseball, especially scarce because Koufax signed with his given first name, Sanford. The parents of Koufax divorced when Sandy was three years old, and Koufax is the last name of Sandy's stepfather, taken by Sandy after his mother remarried. Koufax was more a basketball player than a baseball player as a youth, and he had pitched comparatively little when he was signed by the Dodgers. Koufax struggled with control issues for the first half of his career. In 1961, about halfway through the still struggling career of Koufax, Dodgers back-up catcher Norm Sherry caught Koufax in a B-Squad spring training game against the Minnesota Twins. Sherry advised Koufax not to throw so hard, and Koufax saw his control improve immediately, and he was on his way to the top of his illustrious career. 

Koufax was a 3-time Cy Young Award winner when the award was only given to the best pitcher in baseball, not the best in each league. Koufax threw four no-hitters, including a perfect game. Sandy was a 4-time World Champion, a 2-time World Series MVP, and he won the Triple Crown for pitchers 3-times. Koufax felt he had to retire at age 30 so he wouldn't lose the use of his arm in later life. At age 36, he became the youngest person to ever be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. 

The Koufax autograph was obtained in person by the consignor. The Koufax signed baseball is an Official National League Ball (White). There are a few very small stray marks, perhaps a few from a pen, on the ball, but the marks are away from the signature and barely noticeable. Koufax signed "Sanford Koufax" on the sweet spot in neatly scripted black ink from a ballpoint pen. The auto rates 8/10. The offering comes with a PSA LOA for the signature.
