Official American League (Barnard) baseball signed in black fountain pen by the following twenty-five members of the 1929 New York Yankees: Ruth (sweet spot; grading 7.5/10), Gehrig (grading 4/10), Huggins (Mgr.; grading 5.5/10), Combs, Lazzeri, Dickey, Durocher, Durst, O'Leary (coach), Sherid, Moore, Paschal, Wells, Mathews (coach), Zachary, Lary, Byrd, Shawkey (coach), Heimach, Bengough, Grabowski, Nekola, Meusel, Koenig, and one other (illegible). The black fountain-pen notation "Yankees 1929" appears on the sweet spot, directly above Ruth's signature. Six of the signatures on one side panel, including those of Gehrig, Lazzeri, and Durocher, are faded (averaging 3/10), but still legible; otherwise the remaining signatures range from 5/10 to 7/10. The ball has been coated with a light layer of protective shellac, but all the manufacturer's stampings remain bold. Excellent to Mint condition overall. While we have no way of knowing when this ball was signed in 1929, it features one of the last signatures ever penned by manager Miller Huggins, because he died on September 25, 1929, a week before the season ended. As such, his signature, in any form, is rare. This is an outstanding Yankees team ball dating from Huggins' final managerial season and one featuring seven Hall of Famers. Full LOA from PSA.
