Displayed is an Oct. 7, 1937, World Series Game 2 photo of the New York Giants playing the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, with Hall of Fame legends Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. We believe that the displayed photograph is a TYPE I photo. The day game was played before 57,675, and was won by the Yankees, by an 8-1 score. In the offered 7.1x9" photo, Joe DiMaggio is running for first base after hitting the pitch of Cliff Melton. Dick Bartell, the Giants' shortstop, makes a terrific diving catch of the Yankee Clipper's two-out hard line drive. Red Ruffing went the distance for the Yanks to take the win and Melton had the loss. The Yankees went on to win the Series in six games. DiMaggio had a great 1937 season, batting .346, and had 167 RBIs. Joltin' Joe led the AL in home runs with 46 and runs with 151. On deck for the Yankees is Hall of Fame first baseman Lou Gehrig. Lou was still in top form in '37, with 37 home runs and 158 RBIs, while batting .351.

On back, the photo is stamped "OCT 1 21937." An unknown hand wrote, in red pen, "Yankee Stadium." Attach on back is a suggested WIDE WORLD PHOTO CAPTION: EARLY YANK HOPES/NEW YORK CITY A BIT OF STIRRING ACTION AS WITNESSED BY CAMERA AND SOME 50,000- ODD FANS JAMMED INTO YANKEE STADIUM HERE OCTOBER & FOR THE SECOND GAME OF THE WORLD SERIES...." The photo is in EXCELLENT condition.
