Although Hank Greenberg grew up in an Orthodox Jewish household he was not an observant Jew, and, as we see here, he and his family at least enjoyed a little a bit of Christmas cheer during the holiday season. Offered here are two Christmas related pieces, along with two Hank Greenberg signatures, in the form of a handwritten letter and government postcard. 1) Hank Greenberg family Christmas Card, circa early 1950s. The front of the card features a photo of Greenberg and his wife Caral posing with their two young sons. The printed text on the interior reads "Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year - Hank and Caral, Little Hank and Stephen." 8x5.25". VG. 2) Original news photo capturing Hank Greenberg making a Christmas wish for the upcoming 1939 season. Greenberg is pictured in front of a blackboard upon which his has written "61 Homers in 1939 Merry Xmas Hank Greenberg." The detached original Wide World Photos news caption, dated "12/14/38," explains that this scene took place at the Major League Baseball meeting held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. 9x7.25". VG-EX. 3) Hank Greenberg handwritten letter. One page letter, dated "Dec 5th," on his personal letterhead. In his letter, to Hall of Fame president Ken Smith, Greenberg requests more of his Hall of Fame postcards. In full: "Dear Kenny - Evidently the autograph business is flourishing, as I find myself out of Hall of Fame cards. Could you kindly send me some? Hope this finds you in good spirits and the holidays are joyous ones. Cordially Hank." Both the text and signature are scripted in black marker and grade 9/10 overall. 6.25x7". VG, with a horizontal fold and ink notations on the reverse (unknown hand). 4) Signed government postcard. Inscribed "Best Regards Hank Greenberg" in black fountain pen (grading 8/10) on the front. Postmarked "Dec 6 1941." 5.5x3.25" VG, with a light crease.
