Presented is the chance to possess a terrific 1965 Bob Dylan-related collection of forty (40) original, from the camera, film negatives. These negatives were shot for the San Francisco Examiner newspaper at a '65 concert in the San Francisco area and an interview/press conference in San Francisco. Born in Minnesota as Robert Allen Zimmerman in 1941, the singer/guitarist/songwriter used the name performing name of "Bob Dillon" initially and then switched to "Bob Dylan" when he became aware of the poet Dylan Thomas. Dylan's idol was Woody Guthrie, and as Dylan moved to New York City and environs, he began singing and playing folk songs in Greenwich Village in New York City, playing an acoustic guitar, as did Guthrie. Dylan's first album, simply called Bob Dylan, was released in 1962. His first big hit is the iconic "Blowin' in the Wind," a folk hit released in '63. In 1965, Dylan fused folk and rock & roll in creating the hit "Like a Rolling Stone." He continues to perform into 2025. He was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, with the award based on the poetry of his lyrics. Dylan also has a 1979 Grammy Award for his song "Gotta Serve Somebody," for the best rock vocal for a male, and a 1991 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and a 2001 Academy Award for Best Music for an Original Song for "Wonder Boys."
The offered negatives mostly measure approx. 1.3x1.5", and they are in strips of three. The exception is an approx. 2.3x3.75" negative with a great shot of an expressive Dylan sitting for an interview. There is a small film loss on this negative film in the upper right corner. Most of the negatives depict Dylan in a concert, at an undetermined venue. Some of the negatives show Dylan at a press conference and/or interview over station KQED (a radio/TV station). Some of the images show a person, presumably an interviewer, rather than Dylan. The original envelope, which comes with the prints, reads, in part, [typed] "Singer---Bob Dylan---Interview Press Interview KQED/JONES photographer." These very rare early images of Dylan would make fantastic prints. The negatives are in overall NRMT condition, and they come with the original (4.5x5.5") envelope.
