Rare Type I photograph capturing Hall of Fame outfielder Mel Ott during his rookie season with the New York Giants in 1926. Ott is pictured at the plate in his follow-through swing as he makes his start to first base. An "International Newsreel" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with Ott's name written in pencil and a date stamp reading "May 4 1926." Although the date stamp indicates that the image was published in May, the setting seen here seems to indicate that this photo was taken either during spring training or at an in-season exhibition game. Regardless, it is one of the earliest photos of Ott as a Major League player we have ever seen, making it a significant Hall of Fame photograph. The photo (8x10") displays chips in three of the four corners, as well as several light creases and light surface wear. Encapsulated by PSA as Type I Authentic.
