Original Type I photograph capturing Walter Johnson signing his 1929 managerial contract with the Washington Senators as team owner Clark Griffith looks on. An "International Newsreel" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with a portion of the original paper news caption, which has been reaffixed with an adhesive. Johnson signed a three-year contract to manage the Senators on October 28, 1928. He fulfilled that contract and managed an additional year before being replaced by Joe Cronin in 1933. Johnson led Washington to three consecutive seasons of 92 wins or more from 1930 to 1932, but Cronin possessed one important attribute that Johnson did not have: he was Clark Griffith's son-in-law. The photo (8x6") displays light creasing throughout. Full LOA from PSA certifying it as Type I Original.
