Presented is a circa 1930s photograph featuring Hall of Famers Jimmie Foxx and Lou Gehrig. A native New Yorker from East Harlem, Gehrig, "the Iron Horse," played 2,130 consecutive games for the New York Yankees, the all-time MLB record until broken by Cal Ripken Jr. in 1995. The first baseman was a 6-time World Champion with the Yankees and a lifetime .340 hitter with 493 home runs. Gehrig was a Triple Crown winner and a 2-time AL MVP. Jimmie Foxx played 20 Major League seasons, mostly with the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox. He was usually a first baseman, but also played other positions, particularly third base and catcher. Known as "Double X" and "the Beast," Foxx was a muscular 5'11" and he hit a career .325 with 534 home runs. He was a 2-time World Champion, 3-time AL MVP, and 2-time AL batting champ.
In the black & white photo are Foxx and Gehrig, both smiling, plus three other men, two of them unidentified players and an unidentified man in a suit. Foxx and Gehrig, first and second from the left, might have been receiving awards, perhaps at an All-Star game. The photo measures approx. 6.4x9". The photo has clear tape around the edges (used in part to cover a few very small holes and places with small paper loss), and the tape has rough spots, crinkling areas, and loose places. The photo has a few folds. The back has the number "7" written in pencil by an unknown hand.
