Displayed is a Tris Speaker signed government postcard, with "the Gray Eagle's" signature PSA/DNA certified "MINT 9." Speaker was a Hall of Famer who played 22 Major League seasons: Boston Americans/Red Sox (1907-15) Cleveland Indians (1916-26), Washington Senators (1927), Philadelphia Athletics (1928). As a center fielder, he played very close to second base, and his records include most MLB career assists for an outfielder. He had such range when going back on a fly ball that Speaker's glove was nicknamed "the place where triples go to die." Speaker hit a lifetime .345, 9th all-time in MLB, with 792 doubles, still the MLB record.
The offered government postcard measures 3.25x5.5". The postcard exhibits some slight darkening because of the passage of time. The card is postmarked from Cleveland, Ohio, on "JUL 2/1948." The typed or machine printed name and address on front read, "WILLIS E. BOWLES/R. R. 2/Gibson City, Ill." Speaker signed in dark blue or black fountain ink, in a bold, neat signature. The signed postcard has been encapsulated and has a PSA/DNA CERTIFIED AUTO GRADE of "MINT 9 (85470649)."
