Displayed is a 1970s Rusty Staub game issued bat. Daniel "Rusty" Staub was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1944. Since childhood, Staub was known as Rusty, because of his orange/red hair. A first baseman, right fielder, and designated hitter, Staub later in his career became an excellent pinch hitter. He played 23 Major League seasons: Houston Colt .45s (1963-68), Montreal Expos (1969-71 & '79), New York Mets (1972-75 & 1981-85), Detroit Tigers (1976-79), Texas Rangers (1980). He is the only Major Leaguer in history to have had 500 hits for four different teams: Houston, Montreal, New York Mets, and Detroit. The 6-time All-Star had 292 home runs and a career .279 batting average. While with Montreal, Staub spoke French with the fans, and became enormously popular. Later, Staub was nicknamed by French speaking Montreal fans as "Le Grand Orange" (The Big Orange). Both before and after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Staub was very involved in charity work for the sake of the families of New York City's first responders. Staub passed away in 2018.

The game issued bat has "Adirondack 302" imprinted on the trademark. On the barrel is imprinted "Big Stick/RUSTY STAUB/FLAME TREATMENTl" The number "8," encircled by the number "10," is written by an unknown hand in black marker on the base of the knob and the head of the barrel. The bat shows use with some ball marks on the barrel, pine tar residue on the handle, and wear at the top of the barrel from when the bat was probably tossed in a bat rack. The bat has a length of 33.75" and a weight of 40 ounces.
