Billy Wagner will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in the summer of 2025, as a 16-year MLB left-handed reliever with 422 saves. Displayed is a 2006-09 game used Billy Wagner New York Mets bat. Wagner batted .333 as a Met, but that comes with an explanation: In his Mets career, he was 1-for-3, a single. Lifetime, his Major League batting average is .100, at 2-for-20. Despite trailing his namesake, Honus Wagner, (no relation) by 3,418 hits, Wagner is certainly a deserving future Hall of Fame inductee, as his 422 saves make him only the 5th pitcher in baseball history to reach 400 saves. In addition, Wagner has a lifetime MLB WHIP of merely 0.998, the best WHIP in history for a retired reliever with at least 700 innings pitched. Wagner grew up in rural Virginia, and he suffered a serious broken right arm, his throwing arm then, as a 7-year-old. That forced young Billy to learn to throw left-handed. It turned out to be a lucky break. Wagner pitched for five Major League clubs: Houston Astros (1995-2003), Philadelphia Phillies (2004-05), New York Mets (2006-09), Boston Red Sox (2009), Atlanta Braves (2010). At 5'10" and 180 lbs., Wagner, known as "Billy the Kid," was not imposing, but his fastball was. The 7-time All-Star struck out 1,196 batters in 903 lifetime innings, with a 47-40 career mark and a lifetime 2.31 ERA. The offered Wagner bat is a Louisville Slugger. The barrel reads, "GENUINE C243/BILLY WAGNER/NEW YORK METS." Also on the barrel is a stamped "TPX" and a stamped MLB logo. With a brown finish, the bat has a hollowed-out barrel, with Wagner's number "13" written in silver marker by an unknown hand. Also, written by an unknown hand on the knob is "13," also in silver marker. The bat is uncracked. It has both visible ball marks on the barrel and bat rack marks in a number of places. The bat is 33.3" in length, and it weighs 29 ounces. With his upcoming induction to the Hall of Fame scheduled for July, Wagner will be very much in the news during the summer of 2025, and this Billy Wagner game used bat will make a great remembrance for the outstanding reliever.
