New York Mets pro-model jersey worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver at a media event upon his return to the Mets in December 1982. On December 16, 1982, the New York Mets reversed one of the franchise's most reviled transactions when they sent pitcher Charlie Puleo and two minor-league prospects to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Tom Seaver, whom they traded away five years earlier. At the press conference for Seaver's return, the offered jersey is the one displayed alongside Seaver during his interview with the media. It was also later worn by Seaver at several photo shoots to mark the occasion of his return to New York. The white knit pinstripe jersey is lettered "Mets" across the front and features the number "41" on the left breast and reverse. "Seaver" is lettered upon a white name plate on the reverse, directly above the number. All letters and numerals are applied in blue on orange tackle twill. A "Rawlings 46" label appears in the collar. Seaver has signed the jersey in blue Sharpie (9/10) on the front. The jersey is original as issued, and displays little-to-no use. There are a few light areas of discoloration near the upper left chest, which are most likely due due to handling as opposed to wear. Although the jersey was never worn by Seaver in a game, it has the distinction of being the first Mets jersey worn by "The Franchise" during his historic return to the club prior to the start of the 1983 season. The jersey is accompanied by a full LOA from William Henderson, which includes photo matches showing Seaver wearing this jersey at a media event. Also accompanied by a COA from JSA for the signature.
