Presented is the opportunity to possess a truly iconic, rare, 1971, Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier Fight of the Century off-site poster. The poster was only displayed in New England and only shown in 19 venues. It is the first one we have ever seen and handled. The fight took place on March 8, 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Frazier was the WBA, WBC, and Ring Magazine Heavyweight Champion, and Ali was the Lineal Champion. Both fighters were undefeated: Frazier was 26-0 with 23 KOs, and Ali was 31-0 with 26 KOs. The bout was Ali's return to the ring after three-and-a-half years when boxing commissions revoked his license for his refusal to fight in the Vietnam War. In the fight, Frazier knocked Ali down with a left hook in the 15th Round and won by a unanimous decision. The 17.5x22.5" poster has separate black & white photos of Ali and Frazier. The poster reads, in part, "THE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY/Monday, March 8, 9:00 p.m./Presented Exclusively in New England by Robert (Skip) Chernov/15 ROUNDS WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING TITLE/LIVE and Direct from MADISON SQUARE GARDEN/MUHAMMAD ALI versus JOE FRAZIER/NO HOME TV/NO RADIO/TICKETS ON SALE AT ALL REGULAR OUTLETS/The fight will be televised at the following locations/New Haven Arena, Boston Garden, Racquet Club, Hyannis...." The poster exhibits some slight darkening and has some very minor paper loss along the top and bottom right edge. Otherwise, the poster is in fine condition.
