SSK pro-model right-handed fielder's glove used by New York Mets pitcher Ron Darling during the 1986 season, including the World Series. Photo-matched to Game 7 of the World Series (Getty 3383190 and 97265145). Glove has also been photo-matched to June 1st and an undated image, allowing us to conclude this glove saw season-long use. Darling has attested to its game-used provenance by signing it in sliver paint pen (grading 8/10) on the exterior pinky, where he has added the notation "MY GAMER!" next to his name. Darling's uniform number ("12") is written in silver paint pen on the exterior thumb. The black SSK model "DG-2500DX" glove displays moderate-to-heavy use, including soiling in the pocket and wear to the laces, all of which remain intact.
Darling was masterful for the Mets in the club's dramatic seven-game victory over the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series. Darling started Games 1, 4, and 7 in the Series. In 17 2/3-innings, Darling allowed only three earned runs (1.53 ERA) and his record of 1-1 included a hard-luck 1-0 loss in Game 1. In his Game 4 win he pitched seven innings and allowed no runs. For the season, Darling finished with a record of 15-6 and a 2.81 ERA, numbers that helped him finish fifth in the Cy Young Award voting at season's end. One of the game's top pitchers between the years 1984 and 1989, Darling won 86 games during that six-year span. He finished his career in 1995 with a lifetime record of 136-116 and a 3.87 ERA.
