1955 will always remain the most iconic season in the revered history of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and offered is the opportunity to obtain a very rare, charming ceramic salt & pepper table set to commemorate the only World Championship for the beloved Brooklyn "Bums." The '55 Dodgers had a 98-55-1 record and won the World Series against the New York Yankees in Game 7 as Johnny Podres blanked the Bronx Bombers 2-0, with Sandy Amoros making a miraculous catch in left field that resulted in a double play, saving the game for Brooklyn. That team featured many of the aging "Boys of Summer" including five Hall of Fame players (Campanella, Hodges, Reese, Snider, and Koufax) and two Hall of Fame managers (Alston and Lasorda - as Tommy Lasorda pitched in only four games in a brief stay with Brooklyn in '55, but found fame as the Dodgers' manager in Los Angeles. The offered table set has five pieces: 1) A tray (base), measuring 2.8x6.5", with "Brooklyn Dodgers '1955'" on the front edge. 2) & 3) - A set of salt and pepper shakers. One is of a left-handed pitcher standing on a "mound" designed as a half-baseball, and the other shaker is designed as a catcher squatting (sitting) on another half-baseball. Each of these two interchangeable salt or pepper shakers measures about 1.5" across the base and stands approx. 3" high. 4) & 5) The third "player" of the table set is a "batter." It comes in two pieces, top and bottom, and it is approx. 2" across the bottom and about 3.2" in height. This "player" has "Brooklyn Dodgers" on the brim of his cap. The batter in the center comes apart at the waist and has a place to put a small spoon (not included). This figure was meant to hold sugar. On the bottom of each base of the set is "Japan," indicating the place of manufacturing. The set weighs 10.75 ounces, and it is in very nice condition. The nostalgic set can still be used, and it has great eye appeal.
