Presented is one-of-a-kind 1969 Seattle Pilots printing plate. The Pilots were an expansion team that played only a single season in Seattle before moving to Milwaukee and becoming the Milwaukee Brewers for the 1970 campaign. The offered printing plate was used by the team and came from a former Pilots executive. The printing plate was used to advertise the Pilots' first home series, against the New York Yankees. The Seattle Pilots team was immortalized in Jim Bouton's iconic book Ball Four, which chronicled the knuckleballer's 1970 season, split between the Seattle Pilots and the Houston Astros. The Pilots went 64-98-1 in '69, finishing in 6th place in the AL West Division. Pilots third baseman Tommy Harper led the AL in stolen bases (73), and first baseman Don Mincher had 25 home runs, but most of the Pilots players struggled. Bouton went 2-1 with a 3.91 ERA. The metallic printing plate measures 2x3.5". The plate was used for advertisements in newspapers, programs, flyers, etc., and the printing is deliberately set backwards so that the actual printing reads forwards. The plate's raised letters and numerals read, "MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL at Sick's Stadium/See the Pilots play the New York Yankees/Seattle Pilots/TOMORROW/TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY/For Tickets PA-5 8500." The plate exhibits some oxidation and tarnishing, but it is in otherwise EXCELLENT condition.
