Ballston Base Ball Club season pass issued for the 1879 season. Early nineteenth-century baseball tickets and season passes are exceedingly rare and this example is no exception. This is the not only the first example of this Ballston season pass we have ever offered, but the first we have seen. The blank pass is lettered "Season Ticket - - 1879/Ballston Base Ball Club" on the front. Below that is the word "Admit," but no recipient's name has been filled in. The printing along the base admonishes the holder that the pass is "Not Transferrable." While we cannot state with certainty, as there are several towns named Ballston in the Eastern United States, this pass may originate from the town located in New York, which was the one of the epicenters of baseball during that time period. The green pass (3.75x2"), which is printed on cardboard stock, displays several light-to-moderate creases, and there is a small numerical notation written on the reverse in pencil.
