Fenway Park first opened its gates on April 20, 1912, and has been home to the Red Sox for the past 113 years. Not only is Fenway the oldest Major League ballpark, but, with its legendary "Green Monster," one of the most iconic as well. The offered ticket, which is dated "1912" was issued for the 60th home game of the year (as denoted by the printed number "60" on the front). The original owner of this stub was one of 8,000 fans who witnessed "Smokey Joe" Wood defeat the Tigers 6-2. The win was the 24th for the Boston ace, who finished the year with a record of 34-5. Hall of Fame outfielder Tris Speaker contributed two hits and an RBI in the victory, while Ty Cobb managed just one hit off of Wood in four at bats. The ticket stub (1.5x3.75"), which displays advertising for the Burkhardt Brewing Company on the reverse, is free of any significant flaws and remains an exceptional example dating from Fenway Park's inaugural season.
