Displayed is a Harry S. Truman signed program, in a framed display, from the September 22, 1944, meeting of the Knights of the Cauliflower Ear. Famously, Harry Truman was from Independence, Missouri. He was a captain in the U.S. Army during combat in France in World Ward II. Later, he became a U.S. Senator, then the U.S. Vice President from 1945 until the death in office of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt 82 days later. Truman finished out Roosevelt's term of office and then won election to a full term as President, from 1949-53. As the President, Truman made the fateful decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan in order to end World War II. Later, Truman was the President during the Korean Conflict, and he was the leader of America during the start of the Cold War. Truman was also instrumental in a number of civil rights reforms. The Knights of the Cauliflower Ear was a civic club from St. Louis, Missouri, originally composed of boxing and wrestling aficionados, hence the cauliflower ear reference. Later, the club supported other sports, especially baseball, as well as civic interests.

The program, measuring approx. 6.75x9.5", has been separated into two equal parts and framed. It reads, in part, "Knights of the Cauliflower Ear/Forty-first Irregular conclave/In honor of Eminent Members Ho. Harry S. Truman Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee and Hon. Robert E. Hannegan Chairman, National Democratic Committee." The left side of the folding frame has a small "plaque" measuring 1x3", which reads, "HARRY S. TRUMAN/33RD PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES 1945-1953." Truman signed the program on the left side page, over a small chronology of his achievements. Using blue fountain ink, Truman wrote, "Harry Truman/Thanks, best wishes." The framed display also has an approx. 2.5x3.5" Panini card of Harry Truman. The offering comes with a PSA LOA for the signatures.
