Eisenhower was a 1915 West Point graduate who played on the varsity football team at West Point as a halfback and linebacker. Eisenhower rose through the ranks of the U.S. Army to become the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces during World War II, as a five-star general, and who supervised the famous Normandy Invasion in 1944. After retiring from political office, Eisenhower spent most of his time at his retirement homes, ones in Palm Desert, California, and at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
In part, the typed Eisenhower letter reads, "Dear Governor Bellmon: Thank you for your cordial invitation to visit Oklahoma City on May 10th or 17th. While Mrs. Eisenhower and I would indeed enjoy such a visit, the schedule for our return to the East falls squarely within this period." At the conclusion of the letter, Eisenhower scripted his signature, using black fountain pen ink. The offered letter has the [Oklahoma] Governor's stamp reading, "Received APR 27 1964/Governor's Office." The letter is typed on "DDE" 7.1x10.1" stationery, with the inside address machine-printed as GETTYSBURG/PENNSYLVANIA and a typed, "Palm Desert, California April 23, 1964." The letter is in EXCELLENT condition, and it comes with a PSA LOA for the signature.
